THE FOUNDATION

In the summer of 1983, two Oconee County families suffered tragedies within six weeks of each other. Melissa Norris, daughter of Don and Donetta Norris, was killed in an automobile accident in Oconee County. Karen Nasworthy, wife of G.A. Nasworthy, was killed in an automobile accident on the Atlanta highway in Athens. At the time of these accidents, G.A. was the outgoing President and Don was the incoming President of the Rotary Club of Oconee County.

The Rotary Club decided to honor Melissa and Karen by establishing a foundation in their memory, and the M & K Foundation was born. As both women shared a passion for young people, the directors of the Foundation decided to raise money for scholarships for students from Oconee County High School and, once it opened in 2004, North Oconee High School. In 2008, the Foundation expanded its mission to include leadership training for students at the two high schools.

Fulfilling our Vision of fostering youth leadership, scholarship and service today for adult leadership tomorrow, the M&K Foundation continues to support Academic Scholarships, Youth Leadership Activities for Youth, and ESP camp scholarships.
